natural, etc, there are a lot of ingredients you can use.
Try non-oily emollients like C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate and/or Isopropyl Myristate (or Palmitate),
which help with slip/glide and skin feel without making skin feel oily. Try using Behenyl
Alcohol and/or Cetyl Esters (or other similar fatty alcohols) for a portion of the wax. They
can give an excellent skin feel (slip/glide, silkiness, emollience).
Also try lighter, faster absorbing oils. The heavier the oil, the longer it takes to absorb
in, thereby increasing the greasy feel. I much prefer oils such as Fractionated Coconut,
Apricot Kernel, Sweet Almond, and Macadamia over oils such as Olive and Avocado. Jojoba would
also be a good choice.
A number of years ago, I tried the starch in the lotion bar thing. All I can say is BLEAH! I
definitely did not like the feel of it.
Adding the starch to lotion bars seems to have originated with those wanting a totally
all-natural product and wanting/needing to cut down on the greasiness of application and
after-feel. There are some people and organizations who would argue that the modified starches
are not natural, but that's another discussion. ;-)
From my point of view, if you want the lotion bars to be all natural, you have two choices.
One, stick with the starches and have questionable application and after-feel issues (not to
mention mixing/packaging issues since the stuff settles out). Two, don't use any starch and
understand that a lotion bar by its very nature will be greasy at least to some degree.
If you want your lotion bars to be less (or even non) greasy, then opt for naturally derived
ingredients that can enhance the application and after feel of your product.
