Another approach to giving your face a daily dose of ascorbic acid is to just apply a SPECK of the ascorbic acid powder in the palm of your hand. Add about 4 drops of water (or a toner that doesn't contain alcohol) to that little bit of ascorbic acid in your hand. Mix with a finger and apply the whole little bit to your face. Since ascorbic acid isn't stable after being dissolved in water, you will have used up the dissolved portion immediately. You won't have to worry about formulating something, and you won't have to worry about a preservative. Watch for signs of irritation and back off if you see any. This is probably not something that will appeal to customers, but it is an inexpensive way to get ascorbic acid applied topically. I have been doing this myself.
I once had a bottle of the CE Ferulic Acid made by Skinceuticals and it turned brown before I used it up. Supposedly ferulic acid was added to slow the oxidation, but it doesn't slow it enough. I think that freshly dissolved ascorbic acid is a much better deal.
I keep a tiny amount of ascorbic acid in the bathroom in a little sample size (or lip balm) jar. I keep the rest of it away from a humid environment and just add to the little jar from time to time.
