Hello Donna (please remember to sign your posts)
You can't use food colouring to colour CP soaps..I think you can use them to colour m&p soaps but they fade out of those if they get sunlight on them or shop light..You can easily buy soap colours from any of the online suppliers and if any are reading this message they can pop in and give you a link to their website for you to go have a look and order if you like. I use clays, oxides and ultra marines and other liquid colourants to colour my soaps as well as other natural herbs and things..I actually prefer the clays out of all the other things I use, but thats only personal preference and also based on ease of replacing the clays and ease of adding them..the colour range is a bit limited though..which is why I also use the oxides and UM's.
And by the way..this was NOT a stupid question at all! You can only learn if you are bold enough to ask I say!

About the coloring we put in the soap. Is it food coloring or a
special color mixture blended? It's just that I am finding it hard
to find colors and was wondering if it is simple food coloring that we
use? I guess you get these silly questions a lot but I am just
starting out.
