I think "extra" depends on what you start with.
We need to establish the characteristics the client wants. Would a gel be
acceptable rather than a cream consistency? A gel would usually be clear, a
cream opaque, but it's possible to opacify a gel. The main difference would
be in flow characteristics (rheology). Gels are springy; they tend to
"boing" back after they're deformed, even if they're pourable. Creams just
sit there whether they're scooped or squeezed. But the advantage of gels is
that it's easy to make stable ones using various surfactants or other
colloidal aqueous materials, while creams have a tendency to separate &
settle. Pastes, whether toothpaste or starch pastes, are all gels though
containing suspended matter.
