Can't help at all on the color except to say if you are not against using fd&c colors, they have some nice liquid ones at thesage.com
I'd personally not do a "lip venom" type product. Just asking for sensitization problems since like you said, they use an irritant. Most irritants can be so much more than just an irritant. Plus you have to deal with claims, drugs etc. etc.
